Who we are:
The University of Tampa Spartan Cheerleaders are group of female
and male athletes who are dedicated to supporting all UT Athletics.
Our team is made up of students with a variety of backgrounds in
all-star cheerleading, gymnastics, and high school cheer teams and
will bring a high level of entertainment and performance expertise
to game and special event performances.
Our program is currently comprised of two cheerleading teams. Our RED team is our predominate game team. This team can be seen at games, events, and appearances on campus and in the community. Our BLACK team is our competitive team. This team can be seen as select games, events, and appearances, but their main focus is cheering at local competitions as well as NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach.
What we do:
We can be seen performing at men's and women's home basketball
games, the homecoming soccer game, midnight madness, other select
sporting events on campus, pep rallies, and other campus events.
The UT cheerleaders are also a competitive collegiate team.
Additionally, our cheerleaders participate in several charitable
and fundraising events. If you would like to have our cheerleaders
at your next event, please contact Coach Mannie Rotella at
Srotella@ut.edu.
General Requirements:
Our cheerleaders must meet the following requirements to be a
member of the team:
• Must be in good academic standing with a 2.5 or higher GPA
(2.0-2.5 probation)
• Must be a full-time student
• Incoming students must have a letter of acceptance attached
with tryout application
• Currently enrolled students must have an active student ID
card
Practices and workouts:
Cheerleaders must be in attendance for all practices and/or
workouts unless an unexcused absence is agreed upon by the coaching
staff.
Practices are generally held for 2-3 hours, 2-3 times per week. Practice days may vary by semester as facility availability changes. A practice schedule will be given when the new members of the cheerleading team are announced. Practices are a crucial part in being a member of the UT cheerleading team as it is where we will be practicing stunting and tumbling skills, as well as preparing for upcoming games, events, and appearances.
In an effort to keep our athletes healthy and to prevent illness and injury, our cheerleaders are required to work out two days per week. Workouts are scheduled with UT strength and conditioning coaches.
Incentive:
Although UT cheerleading does not provide athletic scholarships,
there are many incentives for the cheer team members. There is no
mandatory out of pocket cost for cheerleaders throughout the
season. Paid for by fundraising, the cheerleading team is given
Nike warm-ups, Nike backpacks, Nike (and other) practice apparel,
uniforms (to be returned at the end of season), and other
cheerleading apparel. Cheerleaders are also able to utilize the UT
athletics strength & conditioning program, as well as the UT
athletics sports medicine program.
