Tampa Places 118 Student-Athletes on SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll
A total of 12 Spartan teams had players honored.
MELBOURNE, Fla. – A record 1,042 student-athletes were named to the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll, announced Wednesday, June 29 by Commissioner Ed Pasque.
The University of Tampa placed 118 student-athletes on the honor roll, including three with a perfect 4.0 GPA. A total of 168 SSC student-athletes carried a perfect 4.00 grade-point average for the semester.
This spring's honor roll numbers break the previous records of 1,025 student-athletes honored and 149 with perfect grade-point averages set in 2015.
UT was led by women's lacrosse, who had 21 student-athletes named to the honor roll. Men's lacrosse followed with 19, as men's swimming (15), baseball (12), women's swimming (12), rowing (10), women's basketball (8), men's golf (6), women's golf (6), softball (5), tennis (3) and men's basketball (1) each had selections.
Overall, baseball yielded the most honorees for the Spring with 151. Women's Swimming was the top sport for 4.00's with 28 student-athletes achieving perfection.
To be eligible for the Spring SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, rowing, baseball, softball,and men's and women's lacrosse were eligible for the spring honor roll.
Having won 99 Division II National Championships, the SSC's student-athletes have proven to be successful in the classroom. For the sixth consecutive year, the SSC boasts an Academic Success Rate of 86 percent, a mark that ranks second among all NCAA Division II conferences.
Sunshine State Conference provisional members, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Palm Beach Atlantic University, had a combined 115 student-athletes who met the standard for the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
