The Tampa Rundown
Take a look at what athletic events are happening this week.
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week men's soccer defeated Embry-Riddle 3-0 before tying with the No. 9 ranked Lynn Fighting Knights 2-2, in double overtime. The women's soccer team went 1-1 last week, falling to Embry-Riddle 1-0, before defeating Lynn 3-0 on senior night. On Saturday, both the men's and women's swim team beat Rollins 179-75 and 183-62 respectively in a home showdown. Also, over the weekend, volleyball went 3-0 at the South Region Crossover, in Hoover, Alabama. They defeated Shorter, Valdosta State, and West Alabama. The men's golf team continued its fall season, competing at the Webber Invitational. The Spartans turned in a top-six performance with rounds of 310, 319 and 306.
This Week's Events:
Men's and Women's Cross Country:
After a wildly successful season, both the men's and women's cross country team will head to the SSC Championships beginning Saturday the 21st in Boca Raton, Fla. Women's Head Coach Jarrett Slaven said he is, "always excited to compete at the SSC's". The women's team specifically have a lot of young talent and look to ruffle some feathers as they try to take one of the top three spots at the meet. The women's team has finished first in three of the four races they have competed in this season.
Men's Soccer:
This week the men's soccer squad continues conference play with two home games. The first on Tuesday, October 17th against the Nova Southeastern Sharks and the second, Saturday the 21st against the Florida Tech Panthers. Come out to Pepin stadium for a 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM start respectively to support your Spartans. Also, Saturday will be the Spartans' homecoming game as well as senior night.
Men's and Women's Swimming:
UT's swim team welcomes SCAD to the Aquatics Center on Friday the 20th. The meet will start at 4:00 PM.
Women's Golf:
Today (October 16th) and tomorrow, the 17th, your women's golf program is competing in the Saint Leo Invitational at Lake Jovita Golf Course in Dade City, Florida. The women will then travel to Saint Augustine on Sunday the 22nd where they will start the practice round of the Flagler Fall Slam at Marsh Creek Country Club.
Rowing:
Rowing will travel down the road to compete at the USF head race on Saturday the 21st.
Women's Soccer:
The women's soccer team has a pair of road matches this week. They travel to St. Augustine, Fla. on Wednesday the 18th to compete against the No. 5 ranked Flagler College Saints, followed by a trip to Melbourne, on Saturday the 21st to take on the Panthers of Florida Tech.
Volleyball:
The UT women's volleyball team will play Tuesday the 17th at Eckerd in Saint Petersburg. The team will then return home to Bob Martinez Athletics Center on Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st after spending three consecutive weeks on the road. They will face Nova Southeastern and Barry respectively at 7:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Friday against Nova, UT will be celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness month, so be sure to wear your pink.
