The Tampa Rundown
A look at the athletic events happening this week.
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week both the men's and women's golf teams competed on the road. The men finished in the top 10 at the Titan Winter Invitational, while the women finished 11th at the Florida World Invitational. On Wednesday, February 7th, the men's and women's basketball teams each competed against SSC foe, Florida Tech. The women were able to pull out a 57-38 victory over the Panthers before the men fell to Tech, 64-60. The softball team dropped five of the six games they played in last week, and are looking to bounce back as they begin conference play this coming Saturday. Baseball defeated the No. 16 ranked Georgia College, winning the series 2-1. On Friday, the women's tennis team defeated the State College of Florida by a final score of 8-1. Finally, both the men's and women's lacrosse teams defeated their respective opponents. The men were on the road and beat the Queens Royals by a final score of 14-9. In their home opener and season opener, the women upset the No. 11 ranked Rollins College Tars, 10-6.
This Week's Events:
Men's & Women's Basketball:
After some much needed rest over the weekend, this week both the men's and women's basketball teams will compete against Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, and Embry-Riddle on Saturday. Wednesday night the women will take on the Sailfish at 5:30 p.m. The men's game will take place thirty minutes following the conclusion of the women's game, but is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, both teams will be celebrating their seniors. Once again the women will play first beginning at 2:00 p.m. and the men will follow at 4:00 p.m. These games will also be both teams final home contests of the season.
Baseball:
The No. 3 Spartans will take the road on Friday to Pensacola, Fla. where they will compete against the University of West Florida Argonauts at 6:00 p.m. The team will remain in Pensacola on Saturday, to compete in a neutral site contest against Spring Hill. This game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Softball:
Women's softball will begin conference play this weekend opening up in a series against Florida Southern. The Spartans will travel to Lakeland for a 6:00 p.m. game on Friday, and then again on Saturday for a doubleheader with start times of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Men's Track:
Men's track will kick off their 2018 season traveling to Daytona Beach, Fla. where the Spartans will compete at the Embry-Riddle Last Chance meet.
Women's Lacrosse:
The women's lacrosse team will continue their 2018 campaign with their second game of the season on Saturday, February 17th, against the Limestone College Saints. This game will take place at the Naimoli Family Field and is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
Men's Lacrosse:
After defeating the Queens Royals in North Carolina on Saturday, this weekend the men's lacrosse team will travel to Gaffney, South Carolina to take on the reigning national champions, the No. 1 ranked Limestone College Saints. This matchup between two top-ten teams is scheduled to begin at noon.
