The Tampa Rundown
A look at the athletic events happening this week.
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week the women's golf team competed at the Sunshine State Conference Championships. After three rounds of play, UT finished the Championships in ninth place. Women's lacrosse went undefeated last week, defeating the Saint Leo Lions 12-6, before taking down the Embry-Riddle Eagles 23-8. Due to their stellar performance on the field, the Spartans swept the SSC player of the week honors, with Rachel Crawford earning offensive player of the week, and Alexa Scudillo earning defensive player of the week. Men's lacrosse finished the last week of regular season competition 1-1. They fell to the No. 5 Saint Leo Lions 10-9, before bouncing back to defeat the Lynn Fighting Knights 13-6. Women's tennis fell to Lynn University 5-0 in the SSC Quarterfinals. This loss ended the Spartans season with an overall record of 10-9. The softball team won their weekend series over the No. 19 Saint Leo Lions 2-1. Due to her stellar performance, Makaleigh Dooley earned SSC pitcher of the week. The baseball team lost their weekend series 2-1 against Southern Indiana. Also over the weekend, the rowing team competed at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships. In the women's varsity double the team placed second, their next best finish was fourth in the women's varsity pair.
This Week's Events:
Men's Golf:
Men's golf is currently in Davie, Florida where they are competing in the Sunshine State Conference Championships at the Grande Oakes Golf Course. The first round of the Championships took place yesterday, with the tournament wrapping up tomorrow. Currently, the Spartans are in 10th place.
Beach Volleyball:
The beach volleyball team is supposed to host the Florida Southern Moccasins in their final dual of the season tonight at 7:00 p.m. However, this match is subject to commence based on the weather.
Men's Lacrosse:
On Thursday, April 26th, the No. 9 men's lacrosse team will travel to St. Leo, Florida where they will compete in the semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference Championships. Wrapping up regular season play last week, the Spartans earned the 3 seed and will play the 2 seed, Florida Tech, at 3:00 p.m. Should the men win this game, they will advance to the championship game which will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29th, against the winner of the Saint Leo vs. Rollins semifinal.
Women's Lacrosse:
Then on Friday, April 27th, the No. 16 women's lacrosse team will travel to Lakeland, Florida where they will also compete in the semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference Championships. Similar to the men's team, the women also earned the 3 seed, and will be playing against Florida Tech, the 2 seed, at 2:00 p.m. If the women win this game, they will advance to the Championship played on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against the winner of the Florida Southern vs. Rollins semifinal.
Rowing:
Also on Thursday, Rowing will be competing in the SSC Championships in Sarasota, Florida. Races will take place throughout the entirety of the day.
Softball:
The softball team will host Eckerd College for their weekend series. Friday's game will begin at 6:00 p.m. while the games on Saturday will take place at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Baseball:
This weekend, the No. 2 baseball team will travel to Winter Park, Florida where they will play the Rollins College Tars. Games will be Friday, and Saturday with game times at 6:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. respectively.
