The Tampa Rundown
A look at the athletic events happening this week.
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week the men's and women's track programs wrapped up their season competing at the FSU Twilight Meet. On the men's team, freshman Dalton Morley recorded a personal-best in the 800-meter run and recorded a second-place finish, while Mitch Arnold ran his final race as a Spartan finishing eight in the 5,000 meter. On the women's team, Lexi Bible took seventh in the 1,500 meter, while senior Kayla Sullivan followed in twelfth. In the 800 meter, Julia Lockridge earned a sixth-place finish, and in the 5,000 meter, Zoe Jarvis finished in a similar manner. Also over the weekend, the men's baseball team swept Eckerd College clinching the title, 2018 Sunshine State Conference Champions. The win over Eckerd marked the team's seventh consecutive SSC series sweep, with scores of 9-0, 16-3, and 8-1 respectively.
This Week's Events:
Women's Golf:
For the second year in a row, sophomore Kiira Riihijarvi qualified to compete at the NCAA South Super Regional. The regional will take place in Memphis, Tennessee at the Germantown Country Club with the first two rounds of competition taking place tomorrow, and the final round finishing up on Wednesday, May 9th. The Sunshine State Conference announced last week it's all-conference teams, naming Riihijarvi to the second team. Riihijarvi is the program's first All-SSC selection.
Baseball:
This weekend the No. 2 baseball team will host SSC rival, Florida Southern for their final regular season series of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11th, with the doubleheader on Saturday taking place at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. respectively.
Men's Lacrosse:
Also on Saturday, the No. 7 University of Tampa men's lacrosse program will travel back to St. Leo, Florida to take on the Lions in the NCAA Quarterfinals. This will be the third time this season these two squads have met, having split earlier this year. The game is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. on University Turf Stadium.
