ICYMI – In case you missed it, men's and women's basketball and volleyball were in action last week.
Women's basketball had two Sunshine State Conference games this week, first travelling to St. Petersburg to face Eckerd, and later hosting the Rollins College Tars. On the road against the Tritons, UT would overcome an 18-point deficit to earn the road victory. Kris Nelson led the way for the Spartans as she scored 17 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field. In the game against Rollins, Tampa ran away with the victory as they won 85-60. Melijah Sullivan would lead the way for UT, finishing with 18 points while shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the field. With the two victories, the Spartans move to 3-0 in the conference.
Men's Basketball had two games last week, also facing Eckerd and Rollins. In the road game against Eckerd, the Spartans fell just short as the Tritons pulled out the 63-61 win. In the home contest against Rollins, the Tars used a strong defensive performance to pull out a 58-47 victory.
Volleyball was in Boca Raton in the NCAA South Regional. They opened up the tournament facing the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Thursday night. The Spartans would claim the victory in straight sets. On Friday the Spartans faced the Barry University Buccaneers. After dropping the first two sets, the Spartans bounced back to force a decisive fifth set. In the fifth set, the Spartans were able to reach match points on five different occasions but the Bucs ultimately pulled away with the victory to advance to the regional final.
This Week:
Women's Basketball will be on the road on Saturday, as they travel to play the Saint Leo University Lions. The Spartans lead the all-time series against the Lions 82-16 and have won nine of the last 10. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
Men's basketball will also be traveling to Saint Leo as they face the Lions at 7:30 p.m. The Spartans lead the all-time series 60-21 and won the last meeting between the two teams. The two teams have split the last 10 meetings.
