Insurance Information
Per NCAA and University policy, all student-athletes MUST have their primary health insurance information on file in their Student Health Portal prior to any practice/competition.
The University of Tampa utilizes an excess coverage policy to help reduce the cost of medical charges incurred during a sanctioned intercollegiate sporting activity. The following will not be covered:
- Non-NCAA-sanctioned related injuries (i.e., motor vehicle accidents, intramural sports-related injuries)
- Pre-existing conditions
- Ophthalmic (vision) work
- Most dental work, unless the injury occurs to a natural and sound tooth
- Injury or injuries occurred during a tryout
In order to be covered and be considered timely filing, ALL injuries must be reported to the Athletic Training Staff within 30 days of the injury.
Any bills or statements received must be given to the Insurance Coordinator within 14 days of the statement date in order to be processed correctly.
If there are any changes to the primary insurance, the student-athlete MUST inform the Sports Medicine staff and provide the new insurance information within 30 days of the effective date. Any charges incurred due to not informing the department will be the sole responsibility of the student-athlete
Any appointments, including outpatient appointments/treatments with physicians, dentists, therapists, and diagnostic testing, must be coordinated through the Sports Medicine Department.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND BOTH YOUR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY INSURANCE MAY NOT COVER ALL OF THE CHARGES FOR ANY ATHLETIC-RELATED INJURY THAT OCCUR WHILE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA. Therefore YOU will be responsible for any remaining balance.
Any questions, please contact the Sports Medicine Insurance Coordinator, Rob Boutote.
