Bio

Felipe Tellez is in his second year as an Athletic Communications Assistant. He joined the department in the fall of 2015 as an intern while being a student at the University of Tampa. As an intern, he aided in daily office tasks in preparation for game days, assisted in the transition from the old athletics website to the redesigned and upgraded website, and helped with men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women basketball, and volleyball.

In his first year as the Athletic Communications Assistant, Felipe aided in the management of all of the UT athletic teams including primary duties for softball. While working with the department, he also helped out with the NCAA Division II Volleyball Elite Eight, Final Four, and National Championship matches.

This year, he has served as the primary contact for the men’s and women’s soccer team in the fall and will be the primary contact for the softball team in the spring while also helping when needed with men’s and women’s lacrosse.

He is also in charge of the directing, filming, and editing of the weekly recap show “Inside the Shield” and the “Spartan Minute” video series while helping to grow the social media audience and developing content for those accounts.

While a student at UT, Felipe worked for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their Guest and Member Relations department for one season. He was tasked with working on game days and interacting with fans before, during, and after the games. Some of the duties he had while there were proactively answering questions, inform the fans of the new policies prior to entry, and deal with any issues around and in the stadium as needed while also helping the full-time staff as needed.

Felipe was born in Bogota, Colombia but has been a resident in Florida for almost 17 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management from Tampa and will be looking to start his Master’s degree during this coming summer.
