Beach Volleyball Goes 1-1 on Opening Day
In the new program's first day of competition, the Spartans defeated the Warriors 3-2 before falling to the Ospreys 4-1.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team finished 1-1 after the team's first ever duals in program history. The Spartans were able to defeat the Webber International Warriors 3-2 before falling to the UNF Ospreys 4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Spartans fourth and fifth teams started on the courts.
- In the competition between the fours, the Webber Warriors were able to defeat Claire Blumenthal and Alexandra Misca in two sets by scores of 21-17, and 22-20.
- In the fifth spot, the duo of Taylor George and Sarah Moore, defeated the Warriors in two sets by scores of 21-11, and 21-10.
- After the fours and fives finished competing, the ones, twos, and threes began play.
- Sorrel Houghton and Melissa Elias defeated Webber in the ones position in three sets. The freshman duo lost the first set 21-17, before coming back to defeat the Warriors 21-19, and 15-8.
- On the twos court, Leigh Buttner and Gabbi Pacatte fell in three. They won the first set 21-18, and then lost the second two, 21-19 and 15-13.
- Then In the threes position, Nicole Dominguez and Katie McKiel defeated Webber in two sets by scores of 21-14 and 21-18.
- The Tampa Spartans won their first-ever competition against the Webber International Warriors, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Similar to the Spartans first dual, Tampa's fourth and fifth teams competed first.
- This time around Taylor George and Sarah Moore competed in the fourth spot, defeated the Ospreys in three sets by scores of 19-21, 21-16, 15-10.
- In the fifth spot, Coach Lamm used the duo of Marisa Beisner and Nylah Demps. UNF defeated these two in two sets by scores of 21-9 and 21-13.
- After the fours and fives finished competing, the ones, twos, and threes began play.
- Sorrel Houghton and Melissa Elias lost to the Ospreys in the ones position in two sets. The duo was defeated 21-19, and 21-18.
- On the twos court, this time Nicole Dominguez and Katie McKiel competed. These two also fell in two by set scores of 21-17 and 21-15.
- Finally, in the threes position, Leigh Buttner and Gabbi Pacatte fell to the Ospreys in two, by set scores of 21-17 and 21-15.
- The University of North Florida Ospreys defeated the Tampa Spartans 4-1.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- This was the first ever contest for Tampa beach Volleyball.
- This also marked Coach Jeff Lamm's first win as a head coach.
UP NEXT:
The Spartans host Morehead State in their home opener on Thursday, March 1st at 4:00 pm. The Team will then travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. on Friday and Saturday, where they will compete in a tournament hosted by Eckerd College.
