Inaugural Home Opener for Beach Volleyball
Tampa welcomes Morehead State for the program's first home dual.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team is set to host Morehead State on Thursday, March 1st at 4:00 p.m. in the team's inaugural home dual. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony before competition commences with President Vaughn introducing the University of Tampa Beach Volleyball Complex.

Last Time Out: The Tampa Spartans defeated the reigning small college national champions, the Webber International University Warriors, 3-2 in the program's first ever competition. The duos that took down the Warriors included, Taylor George and Sarah Moore, who won in two sets by scores of 21-11 and 21-10. Sophomore partners Nicole Dominguez and Katie McKiel, who also won in two sets by scores of 21-14 and 21-18. Finally, the freshman duo of Sorrel Houghton and Melissa Elias, defeated Webber in three, losing the first 21-17 and then coming back and winning the second two 21-19 and 15-8. The Spartans then lost their second dual of the day, 4-1, against the University of North Florida Ospreys. The one win for UT was duo George and Moore, who won their match in three sets by scores of 19-21, 21-16, and 15-10.
About the Spartans: This is the inaugural season for beach volleyball at the University of Tampa. The roster is composed of 10 beach only athletes, while eight of the student-athletes also played on the University's indoor team in the fall. Head Coach Jeff Lamm, just finished his 16th season as an indoor assistant, where he has found success helping the Spartans achieve two NCAA Division II National Championships. Lamm's indoor coaching career has been wildly successful and in 2011 he was even honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association of America (AVCA) as the National Assistant Coach of the Year. This is Jeff Lamm's first head coaching job at the collegiate level.
About the Eagles: The Eagles beach program is in its second year of existence. Last season, the Eagles finished 2-16 overall, with their only two wins being against Huntingdon 4-1 and UT Martin 5-0. Morehead State carries 12 athletes on their roster, with eight returners from last season.
Series History: This is the first time these two schools have met in Beach Volleyball.
