In the second day of the Stetson Beach Blast, the University of Tampa fell to the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas 4-1.

DeLAND, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team was defeated by the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas on the second and final day of the Stetson Beach Blast, hosted by Stetson University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • On the ones court, Sorrel Houghton and Melissa Elias were defeated in two sets by scores of 21-10 and 21-15.
  • In the twos position, Leigh Buttner and Gabbi Pacatte also lost to the Javelinas in two. The first game went to a whopping 27 points, with Texas A&M Kingsville taking the win 27-25. Buttner and Pacatte then lost the second game 21-15.
  • Partners Nicole Dominguez and Katie McKiel lost on the threes court, 21-17 and then 21-14.
  • On the fours court, Head Coach Jeff Lamm paired Alexandra Misca and Sarah Moore.  These two were able to defeat the Javelinas in three sets, winning the first and third games 21-15 and 16-14 respectively. The Spartans lost the second game 21-14.
  • On the fives court, Claire Blumenthal and Danielle Christian teamed up. These two won the first set 21-16, before losing sets two and three, 21-15, 15-9.
  • Finally, Taylor George and Brooklyn Wilson teamed up for an exhibition match against the Javelinas, who defeated the Spartans in three 21-19, 10-21, and 15-11.

 

 BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • In its first season of play, the Spartans dropped the initial meeting with the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas 4-1.

UP NEXT:
 Tampa will host both Stevenson and Eckerd on Tuesday, March 13th at the University of Tampa Beach Volleyball Complex. UT will take on the Stevenson Mustangs first at 2:00 p.m followed by the Eckerd Tritons at 6:00 p.m.
