Tampa Dominates in Rout of Saint Anselm
TAMPA, Fla. - The #2 Spartans (18-3) won convincingly in a 22-2 game over the Hawks visiting from Saint Anselm College (0-4).
Tampa took advantage of a Saint Anselm error and some erratic pitching to score three runs in the bottom of the second. Garrett Maines and Roberto Mena each had RBI in the frame. Mena with a double down the left field line that scored Craig Corrado and Maines with a bases loaded hit by pitch that allowed Nolan Brannon to cross the plate.
Mena picked up his second RBI in as many innings with a shot through the left side. Brannon and Charlie also had RBI singles as well and the Spartans led 6-0 after three innings.
The Spartans put up five unearned runs in the fourth coming off of two Hawks errors. Raley picked up his second and third RBI on his third hit of they day.
Saint Anselm got on the board in the fifth on a Tyler Nessmith wild pitch. The Hawks added another run in the sixth when Chris Greeke singled to center driving in Mike Craig.
Four more runs crossed the plate in sixth for Tampa, highlighted by Brett McKean's first hit of his collegiate career, a two-run base hit to center. Tampa led 15-2 after seven.
Pinch-hitter Ross Jackson delivered an RBI single to left center for Tampa's 16th run in the seventh.
Kennedy's grand slam in the eighth highlighted a six run inning that extended Tampa's lead to 22-2.
Nessmith tossed five innings in his first collegiate start and earned his first win, allowing only one run. Reserve catcher DJ Fuentes looked impressive at the plate going 2 for 3 on the day with a double.
Tampa will face Shippensburg this Friday at 7:00 pm at The University of Tampa Baseball Stadium.
