TAMPA, Fla. - The newly #1 ranked Spartans (32-7) fell to the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic (13-25) on a rain soaked field by the score of 6-5.
The Sailfish's Raybo Lisle drove in Kris Wellmaker with a double down the left field line in the first, giving Palm Beach Atlantic the early 1-0 lead.
Blaze Lambert hit a solo-homerun in the second inning and James Gladding doubled down the left field with the bases loaded giving the visitors a 5-0 lead.
Four consecutive singles and a sacrifice fly from Jose Jimenez gave the Spartans three runs to put them back in the game with a 5-3 score after five innings.
Troy Ferguson's RBI single drove in Charlie Raley in the sixth and pulled Tampa within a run at 5-4.
Raley reached base in the bottom of the eighth on an error and later scored on Nolan Brannon's double to even the score at five.
Back-to-back doubles by Wellmaker and Lisle in the ninth gave the Sailfish a 6-5 lead they would not relinquish.
The Spartans travel to play Saint Leo tomorrow in a non-conference regional game beginning at 7:00 pm.
