Tampa Offense Explodes In Route Over Bentley.
Spartans Start Season At 2-0.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa Spartans baseball team (2-0) defeated the Bentley University Falcons (0-2) by a final score of 16-2. The Spartans victory was game two of a three game series with the Falcons.
David Heintz got the start and was solid for the Spartans. Heintz went four innings and gave up five hits and no runs. Heintz struck out eight falcons and gave up zero walks. He was relieved in the fifth inning by Chris McCormick with Tampa leading 7-0, and was awarded the win, making Heintz 1-0 on the season.
Unlike game one of the series, the Spartans came out hot offensively. Tampa had quite the second inning, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second after batting through the order. Danny Lee and Laz Rivera both had RBI singles while Adrian Chacon plated two runs with a single down the left field line.
The Spartans offense kept rolling in the bottom of the fifth where they had another five run inning. Kevin Santa came up big in the inning with a double to left field that plated Danny Lee and Mitchell Preston. UT extended it's lead to 12-0 after five innings of play.
Tampa finished with 18 hits while the Falcons registered 9 hits. Chris McCormick was solid in relief work, keeping the Falcons off the scoreboard and helping complete the 16-2 romping.
Tampa will be back in action tomorrow afternoon in the final game of their series versus Bentley University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM at the University of Tampa Baseball Field. The game will be available for live stream.
