PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of Tampa baseball team (8-0) defeated the University of West Florida Argonauts (2-4) in the second of three games Saturday afternoon with a 5-4 victory.
David Heintz got the start and picked up the win, improving to 2-0 on the season, allowing just one run on six hits, two walks and one strikeout over five innings pitched. Christopher Williams recorded the final three outs and earned the save in relief, his first as a Spartan.
Kevin Santa led the team at the plate again with a 4-for-5 performance and a run scored. Laz Rivera and Danny Lee also had multiple hits on the day, each with two hits and a RBI in five and four at-bats, respectively.
Adrian Chacon (two), Casey Scoggins (one) and J.D. Osborne (one) also scored runs on the day. Cody deNoyelles finished the day 1-for-5, but provided the team with what turned out to be the deciding run with a RBI single in the top of the ninth.
The Spartans are back in action tomorrow afternoon for the finale of this three-game set against West Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. eastern time.
