Spartan Offense Continues To Roll In Victory Over Golden Rams
UT collected 18 runs on 20 hits.
TAMPA, Fla. - After recording 22 hits yesterday against Seton Hill, the University of Tampa continued to roll, as they belted 20 hits in an 18-5 victory over Albany State University. The Spartans improve to 13-1 on the season, while the Golden Rams now sit at 1-18.
Ricky Negron led the UT offense on the night as the junior went 2-for-4 with four RBI. Negron hit his second home run of the season, as he led off the sixth inning with a shot to center field. Cody deNoyelles broke out in the game as well, as the third baseman went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Tampa jumped on Albany State early in the ballgame, as they put up a seven spot in the bottom half of the first inning. Casey Scoggins started the game with a single up the middle and quickly stole second base. Scoggins was followed by a Danny Lee walk and a Kevin Santa single to load up the bases. Scoggins would come around to score after Laz Rivera was hit by a pitch. Matt Piatt would then follow with a bases-clearing double to push the Tampa lead to 4-0.
Albany State would add three runs in the top half of the ninth inning.
Kevin Martin started on the mound for UT, as the lefty went three innings, allowing no base runners and striking out five hitters. Cody Martin would get the victory, going three innings out of the bullpen, allowing no hits and striking out six batters.
