The University of Tampa baseball team defeated the Tars 9-4.

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 5 University of Tampa Spartans took on the Tars in game one of the series and were victorious by a 9-4 mark.

How it happened
- The Tars jumped out to a quick lead as they earned two runs in the top of the second that gave them the lead over the Spartans.
- Kevin Santa started off the bottom of the third with a double down the right field line. Darren Miller came up to bat and was walked. Santa and Miller advanced a base after a wild pitch was thrown to J.D. Osborne. Vin Cosenzo came up to the plate and hit a homerun to right field giving the Spartans the lead 3-2.
- The Tars took the lead after they scored one run in the top of the fourth and the top of the seventh.
- Chris Gaffney led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo homerun to left field. Santa mirrored that with a home run of his own to right field. Laz Rivera got on base after being hit by the pitch. Osborne came up to bat and singled through the left side and advanced L. Rivera to second base. Danny Lee came up and singled to the shortstop and L. Rivera scored.
- In the bottom of the third the Spartans collected three more runs to increase their lead to 9-4.
- The Spartans went on to win 9-4 over the Tars.

- Cosenzo went 2-4 with three RBI
- Gaffney went 2-3 with one double, one homerun, and one RBI
- Santa went 3-4 with one double, one homerun, and one RBI
- Osborne went 2-5 with three RBI
Beyond the Boxscore:
- With this win the Spartans clinch the Sunshine State Conference Title outright.
- Osborne hit his 19th homerun of the season.
