Spartans Sail Away with Game One Victory
The University of Tampa baseball team opened up their road series against the Tars with a win, 10-1.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa baseball team traveled to Winter Park for a weekend series with the Tars. The Spartans won game one 10-1.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The top of the first inning started with Stephen Smith reaching first base on a throwing error by the Tars shortstop. Drew Ehrhard then came up to bat and singled to right field, moving Smith to third base. Darren Miller came up next and grounded into a double play that would score Smith and put the Spartans first run on the board.
- The Tars picked up one run in the bottom of the first inning to tie the score.
- In the top of the second, Harrison Bragg homered to left field giving the Spartans the lead once again.
- Darren Miller kicked off the top of the seventh with a single to center field. Danny Sirven then came up to the bag and homered to right field, two RBI. Connor Crile then singled to the shortstop to get on first base. Nick DeTringo continued the hitting tear with a single to left field, moving Crile into scoring position. Richie Rivera reached first on a throwing error by the shortstop which would score Crile. Brandon Gali came up to bat and hit a two RBI single to center field before stealing second. Ehrhard drove in the sixth run of the inning after hitting a single and scoring Gali.
- In the top of the ninth inning Ehrhard was hit by the pitch to get on first base and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Miller came up to the plate and knocked one out of the park to record two more RBI in the ninth.
- The Tars were unable to catch the Spartans as Tampa went on to win 10-1.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Ehrhard went 2-4 with one run and one RBI
- Miller went 3-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one home run
- Gali went 1-4 with two RBI
- David Lebron recorded the win and improves to 8-0 on the season
- Bragg hit his 14th bomb of the season

Tampa returns to action on Saturday, April 28th, for the second game of the series starting at 1 pm.
