Spartans Slay the Sharks

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Spartans split two 7-4 decisions with the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Saturday as they take the overall series 2-1.

Game Two Final: No. 2 Tampa 7, No. 20 Nova Southeastern 4

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:

• The Sharks truck first with three runs in the top of the first. | 3-0 NSU
• Yorvis Torrealba led off the game for the Spartans with a solo Home Run to left field. | 3-1 NSU
• Nova added two runs to the board in the top of the fourth. | 5-1 NSU
• Cole Perry hit a double in the bottom of the fifth, then scored on a Keenan Bell sacrifice fly. | 5-2 NSU  
• Nick Derr reached on an infield single in the botoom of the seventh. He went on to score on a stolen base and two errors by the Sharks. | 5-3 NSU
• The Sharks extended their lead with two runs in the top of the eighth. | 7-3 NSU
• Danny Blair hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to score Derr. | 7-4 NSU

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:

• Nova Southeasten opened up scoring top of the fifth with four runs. | 4-0 NSU
• Bell hit a three-run Home Run to deep right field in the bottom of the sixth. | 4-3 NSU
• Stevie Mangrum hit a solo Home Run to left fied to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. Torrealba scored the go-ahead run on an Aleywine triple. | 5-4 Tampa
• The Spartans tallied on two more runs highlighted by a Stephen Smith RBI single in the bottom of the eighth | 7-4 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS / GAME ONE:

• Torrealba hit 1/5 on the day, with a lead-off Home Run to start the game for the Spartans.
• Perry batted 1/4, with a double and one run for the Spartans.
• Derr came off the bench for the Spartans, scoring two runs on a hit and walk.

INSIDE THE STATS / GAME TWO:

• Bell hit his second Home Run of the season, while earning three RBI's, one run, and going 2 for 2 on the day.
• Aleywine recorded his third triple of the season in the seventh, tallying one RBI on the day.
• Mangrum nailed his third Home Run of the season for the Spartans.

OUTSIDE THE BOX:

• Head coach Joe Urso now stands at 797 career wins as the all-time winningest coach in UT history is approaching another milestone.
