Spartans Come Up Short Against Central Missouri

CARY, N.C. – The Spartans dropped their first game of the post-season to the NCAA Championship Series No. 1 seed Central Missouri. Tampa will play No. 8 Northwest Nazarene in the double elimination losers bracket on June 9 at 6:00 p.m. in an effort to keep their post-season hopes alive.
Final: No. 1 Central Missouri 8, No. 5 Tampa 4

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Central Missouri took an early lead with a top of the first inning home run. | 1-0 UCM
- Tampa took their first lead of the game on a two-run jack by Drew Ehrhard who scored E.J. Cumbo in the bottom of the first. | 2-1 Tampa
- The Mules tied the game up in the top of the second. | 2-2 Tied
- Cumbo crushed a solo shot in the top of the third to reclaim the lead. | 3-2 Tampa
- The Mules added three runs in the top of the fifth inning. | 5-3 UCM
- J.D. Urso scored Jamarcus Lyons on a groundout to the shortstop in the top of the sixth to put Tampa within one. | 5-4 UCM
- In the bottom of the eighth, Central Missouri tallied three runs to close out the game. | Final: 8-4 UCM
INSIDE THE STATS:
- E.J. Cumbo and Drew Ehrhard both launched home runs in this one. Cumbo enjoyed a 2-for-5 day at the plate with two runs scored, an RBI, and no strikeouts. Ehrhard's day included the two-run shot and a run scored.
- Three Spartans hit 2-for-4 on the day: Luke Glancy, Jamarcus Lyons, and J.D. Urso. Glancy hit a double, Lyons scored a run, and Urso logged an RBI.
- D.J. Masuck struck out two batters in just one IP.
UP NEXT: The Spartans play No. 8 seed Northwest Nazarene Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in a loser-goes-home game.
