Suspended Play Doesn't Affect Spartan Bats as they Sweep the Buccaneers
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Spartans keep hot bats rolling into Saturday doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED -- GAME ONE:
- A five run inning in the first for the Spartans was sparked by a first pitch grand slam from E.J. Cumbo to right | 5-0 Tampa.
- The Buccaneers scratch one back in the bottom half of the first on a double play as Maceda was able to score easily | 5-1 Tampa.
- With no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, the Buccaneers hit into another double play but a runner did score to cut into their deficit | 5-2 Tampa.
- In the top of the third, Jamarcus Lyons hit a solo shot to left off the scoreboard. Later in the inning, Jose Cadenas doubled to left center and scored two. After a stolen base from Cadenas, Jordan Lala hit a sacrifice fly to left to extend the lead. With two outs, Cumbo doubled down the left field line which brought home two more. Anthony Nunez batted for the second time in the inning and singled to bring home Cumbo from second | 12-2 Tampa.
- The Buccaneers with two outs in the fourth singled up the middle and scored one from third | 12-3 Tampa.
- The Spartans pour it on in the fifth, with some help from Gutcher as he hit his 10th homer on the campaign. Macallister Jorgensen singled and brought in two more | 18-3 Tampa.
- Luis Rodriguez doubled down to left center in the seventh | 19-3 Tampa.
- Barry came back in the bottom half and put up three of their own | 19-6 Tampa.
- The Buccaneers put four more in the eighth | 19-10 Tampa.
- A scoreless final frame secured the win for the Spartans | FINAL: 19-10 Tampa.

- The Spartans loaded the bases with two outs in the second, and back-to-back walks brought in two runs. Drew Ehrhard followed up with a double down the left field line that scored two more. Lala scored on a failed pick off attempt | 5-0 Tampa.
- The Buccaneers got one back in the bottom half | 5-1 Tampa
- In the top of the third, the Spartans added two more | 7-1 Tampa.
- Nunez singled down the left field line and scored Urso and Ehrhard, and extended the lead to eight. After play was resumed the Spartans scored two more in the fourth. | 11-1 Tampa.
- Cumbo doubled down the left field line in the fifth and scored Urso all the way from first | 12-1 Tampa.
- A sacrifice fly from Jorgensen to left scored Cumbo from third to push the lead to 11 | 13-2 Tampa.
- A couple of knocks to start the inning for the Buccaneers eventually brought home two runs for them in the eighth | 13-4 Tampa.
- Dalton Ross shut the door on the series against the Buccaneers in the ninth | FINAL: 13-4 Tampa.
INSIDE THE STATS -- GAME TWO:
- Ehrhard is one hit shy of becoming second all-time in hits for the program.
- Cumbo went 3-3 on the day to improve his average to a team-leading .442.
- This sweep marks the 7th sweep of a Sunshine State Conference opponent in 8 total series.
