GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 2023 ABCA NCAA Division II Region All-Defensive teams have been announced in all eight regions, with the University of Tampa placing a pair of players on the South Region team. Anthony Nunez was selected as the top defensive third baseman in the South Region, while Michael Paul was the lone pitcher in the region to receive recognition.

Nunez, a sophomore from Miami, Fla., played 52 games at the hot corner for the Spartans in 23, with a .957 fielding percentage. He had 141 total chances in the field, only committing six errors. While being part of eight double plays, Nunez recorded 104 assists and 31 putouts on the year.

Paul, a senior from Clearwater, Fla., had a perfect fielding percentage in his final season as a Spartan. The ace pitcher appeared in 15 games, registering 10 assists and four putouts while being part on one double play turned.

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America Committee. The Chair of the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America & Coach of the Year Committee is Rudy Garbalosa of Lynn University. The committee also includes Randy Betten (Cal Poly Pomona), Jamie Detillion, Jim Gantt (Catawba College), Rick Giannetti (Dominican College), Dave Hajek (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs), Alex Koch (Wayne State College) and Joe Spano (Mercyhurst University).

Players selected to the ABCA NCAA Div. II Region All-Defensive teams were eligible for ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove honors. The 2023 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners in all divisions were announced Wednesday, June 21.

Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.
