Spartans Dethrone Knights on Senior Day
The Spartans defeated Lynn University 87-64
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team hosted the Lynn University Fighting Knights for a senior day showdown and were victorious with a score of 87-64.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | The first point of the game came off of a foul shot by the Knights. Matt Johnson got the Spartans on the scoreboard first with a two point basket. Through the first five minutes of the game the Knights had a 9 to 5 lead. A Pat Bacon 3 pointer gave the Spartans a 14-12 lead near the midway point of the half. With over seven minutes to play in the half, the Spartans lead was 8 points. After Lynn lead the game early, the Spartans looked to be in control most of the half. With four minutes left to play in the half the Spartans had a 32-20 lead. An Anthony Gamble three pointer gave the Spartans a fifteen point lead. Austin Rettig had the final basket of the half for the Spartans. The Spartans took a 44 to 27 lead into the half.
2nd Half | The Knights scored first to open the half. Marcel Robinson hit a three pointer to open the scoring for the Spartans. Through the first five minutes of the half the Spartans lead 55 to 34. The Spartans picked off right where they left off at halftime, as they looked to be in complete control. Midway through the half the Spartans lead 62 to 44. The Knights were playing catch-up the entire half. With just over five minutes to play in the game a Duke Shelton slam dunk gave the Spartans a 77-54 advantage. With two minutes to play in the game the Spartans led 81 to 60. The Spartans led the game the entire second half and went on to win 87-64.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Rettig was the leading point scorer with 19 points.
- Bacon had a double-double recording 13 points and 10 assists.
- Marcelo Reudiger recorded 12 points and went 5-7 from the field.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Ruediger destroyed his career high for points, setting a new record with 12.
