HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | Tampa was on the board first with a layup by Pat Bacon. Then, a foul on Lynn sent Bacon to the line as he went 2-2. Three minutes into the game, the Fighting Knights got their first points with a field goal beyond the arc. After a three-point jumper by senior Marcel Robinson, the Spartans maintained a steady lead. Bacon led UT offensively notching 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Senior Duke Shelton played a vital role defensively having eight rebounds. Going into halftime, Tampa led Lynn 42-24.
2nd Half | Tampa came out of the locker room in full force as Robinson scored first with a layup. The Spartans kept the Fighting Knights at a distance for the remainder of the second half. Both teams took turns at the free throw line in the foul-filled half. UT shot 69 percent from the line compared to Lynn's 56 percent. Lynn made it a closer matchup in the last two minutes after a layup making it a four-point game. Tampa was able to hang onto the lead, defeating the Fighting Knights 72 to 65. Bacon was key to the offense as he scored 25 points and had six assists.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Bacon was the leading point scorer with 25 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
- Robinson was the second highest point scorer for the Spartans with 14 points and three steals.
- Shelton led the defense as he registered 11 rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- Shelton recorded his sixth double-double of the season.
