UT Men's Basketball Set to Host Tampa Classic
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team is set for a pair of games as it. hosts the Tampa Classic, which will feature four total games at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
Friday, December 17
Game One: Eckerd vs. Trevecca Nazarene, 4:00 p.m.
Game Two: Tampa vs. Tiffin, 6:00 pm
Saturday, December 18
Game Three: Eckerd vs. Tiffin, 4:00 p.m.
Game Four: Tampa vs. Trevecca Nazarene, 6:00 pm
The classic will feature fellow Sunshine State Conference opponent Eckerd College, who will open both days against fellow NCAA Division II opponents Trevecca Nazarene University and Tiffin University.
Winners of three of its last four games, the Spartans are now 4-3 on the season, including a 1-0 record at home. Freshman Max Jones continues to lead the Spartans as the Clearwater, Fla., native is averaging a team-high 22.6 points per game. Joining Jones as double-digit scorers are seniors Jonathan Bryant II (15.0) and Derrick Felder (11.0).
Eckerd enters the weekend sporting a 1-7 record as the Tritons are looking to snap a six-game skid. Gianfranco Grafals leads Eckerd at 18.0 point per game with teammate Daniel Love also averaging double figures at 12.9.
Trevecca Nazarene is a region opponent hailing from the Great Midwest Conference. The Trojans are 3-6 on the season, and enter on a five-game losing streak. Senior C.J. Penha is one of three players on the team averaging double figures as he stands at 18.6 perm contest.
Tiffin also hails from the Great Midwest Conference, and sits at .500 on the season with a 4-4 mark. The Dragons have won two straight, dropping 106 points on Carlow in its last outing. A balanced Tiffin attack includes eight players averaging 8.0-plus points per game, led by Tanner Johnson at 12.3 points per game.
