Spartans Well Positioned Heading Into Final Round At Barry Invite
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Head coach Rick Christie has his University of Tampa golf team primed for an excellent finish following two solid rounds at the Carrabba's Italian Grill Invitational. The Spartans are third of 14 teams at the event that is hosted by Barry University at Normandy Shores Golf Course.
Following an opening round 289, the Spartans shot a 288 to conclude play on Monday. At 577, UT is just seven shots behind Barry, which leads the field of 14 teams. Brevard Community College is second, just two strokes ahead of Tampa.
UT also turned in its top two rounds of the 2009-10 season, with just one round to play. The Spartans lead fellow Sunshine State Conference opponents Lynn (578), Nova Southeastern (582), Saint Leo (591) and Florida Tech (599).
Nicolas Jutigny ended the day as the number-two individual through the first two rounds. The junior clubbed a 69 in both rounds and sits at 138, putting him one shot behind leader Spencer Baldwin (Brevard CC).
Kris Shane (144), Taylor Noel (147), Kyle Roy (150) and Eric Snow (151) made up the Spartan lineup. Charlie Green (157) and Josh Detmer (159) also competed for Tampa.
Competition will end with a final round on Tuesday.
