TAMPA, Fla - The No.9 Tampa Spartans welcomed
the Adams State Grizzlies Thursday night at the Naimoli Family
Athletic Complex.Tampa dominated Adams State in every facet of the
competition. The game was over long before the final whistle with
Spartans coming out on top 15-3.
Following the victory, UT improves to 8-1 and extends its win
streak to seven games. ASU drops to 1-7 on the year.
The Spartan offense was led by Conor Whipple who netted five goals
in the match. Serving as the catalyst for the offense Mike Morris
dished out two assists on the day. Also scoring for the Sparatans
were Nick Ferreiro, Bobby Calhoun, and A.J. Leary who each
registered two goals. Tampa Finished the day 18-21 on faceoffs, and
posted a clearance rate of .867 on the day.
Defensively Tampa put on an impressive effort causing eight
turnovers and 32 groundballs. Leading the effort on defense for
Tampa was Nick Balzano and Charlie Cummins who each caused two
turnoverss on the day. Also paying tenacious defense was Nick
Ferreiro, Jon McGowan, Michael Asher and Luke Posner.In net A.J.
Arnold put on an ectremely impressive performance not giving up a
goal until late in the third period.
When asked about his team's performance Coach Whipple said "he was
proud of his team, and played one of their best games defensively
all year."Coach Whipple credited their success to Arnold and their
effort in the faceoff where Trevor Calleja went 10-11 in the
contest.
Tampa returns to action Saturday on the road against against Saint
Leo University. The game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
