Two Spartans Tab Sunshine State Player of the Week Awards
Sam Watts was named Specialist of the Week for the third time this season, along with Andrew Kew as Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Melbourne, Fla.- The Sunshine State Conference announced its men's lacrosse player of the week winners, tabbing University of Tampa faceoff specialist Sam Watts as its Specialist of the Week and Andrew Kew as Offensive Player of the Week, for the third time and second time this season, respectively.
Watts was selected as the Men's Lacrosse Specialist Player of the Week after he won 17-of-25 faceoffs against the No.19 Colorado Mesa Mavericks. The Buffalo, New York native also registered two points, one goal and one assist in the match-up. Against Sunshine State Conference foe, Rollins College, the junior went 26-28 on face-offs with 20 ground balls.
Kew was selected as the Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 15 points this week. Against ranked opponent, No.19 Colorado Mesa Mavericks, the Sophomore tallied six goals. In the opening SSC game, Kew had nine points with seven goals and two assists. The seven goals in one game tied the school record for most goals in one game. The Oakville Ontario native is currently the nation's leading goal scorer with 53 thus far.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of March 20 - March 26, 2017. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
