No.5 NYIT Defense Holds No.10 Tampa
Despite a strong offensive 4th period, Tampa falls by two goals to Top 10 opponent.
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The No. 10 University of Tampa men's lacrosse fell to No.5 New York Institute of Technology.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Period
- Tampa had the first goal of the game from Andrew Kew.
- The Bears responded back with three goals to take a 3-1 lead.
- Kew fired again with five seconds left in the period, assisted by Conor Whipple.
2nd Period
- NYIT tacked on another goal for a lead of 4-2.
- Jake Mosher McGraw has his first goal of the game at 11:32.
- The Bears answered with three goals to take a four-goal lead of 7-3.
- Mosher McGraw has another goal with 1:14 left in the period.
- With one second left, NYIT takes an 8-5 lead going into half-time.
3rd Period
- NYIT starts the period with back-to-back goals to have a lead of 10-5 over Tampa.
- Whipple has his first goal of that game at 6:10, assisted by Kew.
- The Bears answered back with two more goals, now leading the Spartans 12-6.
4th Period
- The Spartans offense came alive in the final period of the game.
- Three minutes into the period, Whipple has an unassisted goal.
- At 3:43, Whipple attacks again with an assist from Sean Herdman.
- Two minutes later, Bryan Wright teams up with Whipple to decrease the deficit to 12-9.
- NYIT answers back at 1:19.
- Whipple has an unassisted goal to bring the game within three points.
- The final goal of the game comes from Wright, assisted by Whipple at 00:26, Tampa falling by two goals to NYIT.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Whipple led the team in points with four goals and three assists.
- Charlie Cummins had three caused turnovers and two groundballs.
- Kew and Wright each tallied two goals.
- Luke Posner led the team in ground balls with four, also tallying a caused turnover.
Beyond the Box Score:
- Sophomore, Andrew Kew broke the school record for goals in a season (62) with 67 thus far. The Oakville, Ontario native is on track to break the NCAA goals in a single season record of 72 this season.
