Conor Whipple and Marty Heyn Named USILA Scholar All-Americans
Seniors Whipple and Heyn were named USILA Scholar All-Americans due to their exemplary performance on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
PERRY, N.Y. - Conor Whipple and Marty Heyn were named United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-Americans. Scholar All-Americans are exemplary on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. They have been and will continue to be tremendous representatives of the sport of Lacrosse.
In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.
A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.
Conor Whipple, a senior attackman from Tampa, Fla., led the Spartans offensively to their third NCAA Semifinals appearance. With 99 points on the season, Whipple led the team in assists with 60 while also scoring 39 of the team's 168 goals. He earned first team All-Sunshine State Conference honors for the fourth year in a row, as well as snagging SSC Player of the Year for the third time in his career. In addition to his accolades within the SSC, he was also the recipient of the Tampa Sports Club Male Athlete of the Year, was a USILA First-Team All-American, named CoSIDA second team Academic All-American, and earned the DII ADA Academic Achievement Award.
Marty Heyn, a senior from Gaithersburg, Md., was the Spartans main defense weapon for the 2016-17 season. Heyn started in 19 games for the Spartans, in which he picked up 39 ground balls and led the team in caused turnovers with 30 on the season. He earned first team All SSC honors for the third time in his collegiate campaign and was awarded a spot on the SSC All Championship team. Additionally, he was named USILA Third-Team All-American, was awarded the DII ADA Academic Achievement Award and played in the USILA/NIKE North South All-Star game.
