Spartans Sweep Men's Lacrosse SSC Player of the Week Honors
After the team's historic win over the top-ranked Limestone College Saints, Posner, Kew, and Dickerson earn SSC Player of the Week.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference announced its men's lacrosse player of the week winners, with the University of Tampa sweeping all three awards. The SSC tabbed Luke Posner as Defensive Player of the Week, Andrew Kew as Offensive Player of the Week, and Ross Dickerson as Specialist of the Week, for their performances in the 12-10 upset over the No. 1 Limestone College Saints. This also marked the first time in program history that the University of Tampa was able to defeat Limestone College.
Posner, the senior captain from Madisonville, Louisiana, earned Defensive Player of the Week for holding pre-season first-team all-American Charlie Sheehan to zero points against the Spartans. Additionally, Posner caused two turnovers for UT and picked up one ground ball.
Kew was selected the Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Spartans offense with six goals against the top-ranked Saints. The Oakville, Ontario native took 16 shots against the Saints, 11 of which were on the goal. Additionally, Kew had four ground balls for the Spartans.
Finally, Dickerson earned his second Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week honor after he won 21-of-25 faceoffs against the reigning national champions. In addition to leading the team in faceoffs, he also led the Spartans with eight ground balls.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of February 12 – February 18, 2018. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
