Spartans Set to Host SSC Rival Florida Southern
The No. 9 University of Tampa Spartans welcome the Florida Southern Moccasins on Wednesday, April 4th, at 8:00 p.m.
TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 9 University of Tampa men's lacrosse team is set to host Sunshine State Conference rival, Florida Southern, on Wednesday, April 4th at 8:00 p.m.
The Matchup: No. 9 University of Tampa (9-3, 1-1 SSC) vs. Florida Southern College (7-3, 2-0 SSC)

Last Time Out: The Spartans were defeated by the No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne Bears, 12-9. In the contest, three different Spartans had two goals. These players included Andrew Kew, Hunter Van Horn, and Matt Vetter. Sophomore Bryan Wright also played a key role on offense, stating three assists for Tampa. The defensive efforts were headed by senior Luke Posner who recorded four ground balls and a team-high of two caused turnovers. Ross Dickerson was the team's primary faceoff specialist, winning 13-21 along with picking up eight ground balls, while B.J. Borowski played keeper for the Spartans, facing 19 shots and earning nine saves.
About the Spartans: Tampa is currently 9-3 overall, 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. Highlights for the Spartans this season include defeating the No. 1 Limestone College Saints 12-10, the No. 7 NYIT Bears 10-9, the No. 10 Belmont Abbey Crusaders 13-12, and the No. 16 Lindenwoood Lions 12-6. UT has suffered three losses this season coming from, No. 8 Colorado Mesa, Florida Tech, and No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne. After losing last season in the NCAA Semifinals, the Spartans are hungry to pick up where they left off and look to finish the season strong, thus punching a ticket to the NCAA tournament once again.
About the Moccasins: The Moccasins are currently 7-3, 2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. The teams three losses have come from No. 10 Belmont Abbey 5-16, Wingate 5-9, and Le Moyne 6-11. Florida Southern's only win over a nationally ranked opponent came against No. 4 Colorado Mesa 12-9. Offensively, the Mocs are led by #3 Lucas Claude and #10 Kevin Dyer. Claude currently has 32 goals and eight assists, while Dyer has 24 goals and six assists. Alex Dagen, #22, leads the team in caused turnovers, having logged 18 this season. FSC's primary faceoff specialist is #55 Kevin Horwitz who has won 98 of 186, in addition to picking up 42 ground balls. The Moccasins use #17 Mike Greco as their primary goalkeeper. Greco has recorded 118 saves and has a goals against average of 9.77.
Series History (Men's): The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Moccasins 9-1.
Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
