Spartans Play to Draw with Mocs

The University of Tampa (7-4-2, 1-3-1 SSC) men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with Florida Southern College (4-5-3, 0-3-2 SSC) on Wednesday night.
"I'm proud of how our guys stayed strong this game," says head coach Adrian Bush. "It's never good to give up a two-goal lead, but we give credit to Florida Southern for getting back in it. Our guys held strong and we must continue to grow. Last game next game."
Nikolai Hammer connected for the Spartans in the 18th minute as the junior scored unassisted on a breakaway down the middle of the field for a 1-0 lead.
Goalkeeper Zak Downes tallied five saves for Tampa in the first half. The Spartan defense held strong in the period keeping the Mocs scoreless despite being outshot 9-1.
Keith Francisco notched an insurance goal in the 64th minute after converting on a penalty kick to give UT a 2-0 advantage.
Nico Guevara scored in the 70th minute on a shot inside the box as Corey Mills was credited with the assist on the goal cutting the FSC deficit to 2-1.
Jimmy Oatman netted the equalizer in the 85th minute to even the score at 2-2 sending the match to overtime. Following two 10 minute overtime period the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Francisco led the Spartans with three shots as Bay Downing also contributed to the offense with a shot on goal. Downes concluded the match with eight saves in goal for Tampa.
