Spartans Prepare To Face-off Against Tritons
TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Spartans men's soccer team is gearing up for a mid-week Sunshine State Conference matchup as they welcome the Tritons of Eckerd College on Wednesday at 7 p.m., at Pepin Stadium.
Tampa enters the contest with a record of 6-4, and a 2-1 mark in SSC play. UT's previous match against Lynn was postponed due to weather, but unleashed an offensive onslaught in its previous matchup against Embry-Riddle, defeating the Eagles 4-0.
Eckerd comes into the match sporting a record of 7-1-1 and a 3-0-1 tally in conference play. Last time out, EC dropped a road game to No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic 3-0. The Tritons are also the lone unbeaten team in the SSC.
UT's offense is averaging 1.90 goals per game on the season, which ranks fifth in the SSC and second in shots on goal with 79. Leading the charge for Tampa is senior Keith Francisco, who's tallied four goals and one assist on the year. Also chipping in contributions for the Spartans is Monty Berrow, Bay Downing, Jason Collister, Fredinho Mompremier, and Troy Tucker, who have each netted two goals respectively.
Goalkeeper Christian Knight and the defensive unit have been playing stingy team defense as they are third in the conference, boasting a 1.17 goals against average, and rank fifth in the conference in saves (39). Manning the back line for Tampa is freshman Ramzi Toure, Zack Soufl and Bryan Tissot.
The Spartans lead the series all-time against the Tritons 32-7, with Eckerd winning the last meeting in 2014.
