TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team was shut out by Sunshine State Conference opponent Saint Leo University on Wednesday night.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

All-time Series: Tampa now leads the nall-time series 30-12, though Saint Leo has now won six straight over the Spartans.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | Saint Leo struck twice in the first 10 minutes of the match, beginning with a Brian Werchek goal just under three minutes into the contest. The Lions took a 2-0 lead in the eighth minute as Teddy Auyoma netted the goal. The two teams each had five shots in the half.
2nd Half | The Spartans outshot the Lions by a commanding 14-3 mark in the second half, though UT was unable to find the back of the Lion net.
INSIDE THE STATS:
• UT outshot Saint Leo 19-8 in the game, and registered five shots on goal compared to four for the Lions.
• Junior Bay Downing was credited with five shots for Tampa, including two on goal. Jake Winship added four while Lewis Sugden had three.
• Jake Richards started for the Spartans at goalkeeper, and finished with two saves.
• UT had a slight edge in corner kicks, 7-5.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
• Richards started his 11th match of the season, as the freshman has now started five consecutive contests.
• UT was shutout for the first time of 2016. The last time Tampa was held scoreless came on September 30, 2015 at Florida Southern.
• In the initial NCAA Southn Region rankings, Tampa was listed in a fourth-place tie with Mississippi College. The top four teams from the South are selected for postseason play.
