Tampa Hosts No. 17 Rollins for Wednesday Night Matchup
The Spartans are coming off their first conference loss against Florida Southern
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's soccer team will host the #17 Rollins College Tars for a midweek Sunshine State Conference matchup.
The Matchup: Tampa (2-2-1, 1-1-1 SSC) vs. #17 Rollins (5-1-1, 3-1 SSC)
Date/Time: Wednesday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
Location: Pepin Stadium | Tampa, Fla.
Last Time Out: Tampa went on the road to Florida Southern and had their first conference setback of the year as the Mocs came out on top 3-1 in regulation. Just over five minutes into the second half, Juancho Fernandez cut into the deficit the Spartans were in at halftime as he made the score 2-1 off an assist by Lewis Sugden. Despite their best efforts, UT was unable to find the tying goal and FSC netted the final goal of the night in the 76th minute.
About the Spartans: The Spartans have spread the goals around as seven different players have netted at least once this season. Bay Downing leads the team in goals with three tallies on five shots on target. Lewis Sugden and Juancho Fernandez are tied for the team lead in assists at two apiece while two other players have one each. In net, Jake Richards has played a majority of the minutes between the posts. The sophomore keeper comes into the match with a 1.89 GAA and has recorded 12 saves and a .667 Save percentage, conceding six goals in 286 minutes of action.
About the Tars: Rollins has also seen multiple players appear on the boxscore as eight players have at least one goal. Ben Grant leads the team with five goals while Damian Clarke is close behind with three goals of his own. The assists lead belongs to Andre Nansen and Johnny Nartowicz who come in with two each. Senior goalkeeper Julian Grundler has been the choice in net for the last four games. Grundler has only given up three goals in that time with 16 saves and also recorded one shutout.
Series History: Tampa leads the all-time series history against Rollins 25-16-2. Last season, the Spartans and Tars finished their match in a 3-3 draw.
