TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's soccer team is back at home as they host the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles in a midweek Sunshine State Conference matchup. The Spartans will look to get back on the winning track after falling on the road in regulation 1-0 to Barry University this past Saturday.
The Matchup: Tampa (3-3-1, 2-2-1 SSC) vs. Embry-Riddle (1-5-1, 0-4-1 SSC)
Date/Time: Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m.
Location: Pepin Stadium | Tampa, Fla.
Last Time Out: The Spartans went 1-1 last week as they upset the #17 ranked Rollins College Tars 2-0 at home as Felipe DeSousa scored 40 seconds into the game and Monty Berrow added the second in the second half. The team fell to Barry during the weekend as the Buccaneers managed to get an 80th-minute winner for their first conference win of the season.
About the Spartans: Bay Downing, Berrow, and DeSousa lead the Tampa attack as they have seven goals combined. Juancho Fernandez and Lewis Sugden each have added two assists this year and four other players have recorded one each. Jake Richards has been the goalkeeper between the posts in the last five games as the sophomore comes into the match with a 1.35 GAA and has 20 saves this season.
About the Eagles: Magnus Magnusson leads the offense for ERAU as he has scored two goals in seven games on four shots on goal. Tim-Frederik Lange and Felix Lohmeyer are the only players to have recorded assists this season with one apiece. Goalkeeper Richard Dearle has played every minute for the Eagles this season, giving up 10 goals in 669 minutes of action and recording 31 saves. The 'keeper has faced 87 shots and has also kept one clean sheet.
Series History: Tampa has a 4-2-2 advantage in the all-time series. This will be the first time these two schools meet in a conference game as ERAU became a full member of the SSC this year (2017-2018).
