Tampa Hosts West Alabama in 2nd Round of NCAA Tournament
The 3rd seeded Spartans will host the 2nd seeded Tigers on Sunday
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's soccer team will host the University of West Alabama on Sunday afternoon in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans earned the 3rd seed in the tournament and the Tigers were named as the 2nd seed in the South Region.
The Matchup: Tampa (9-3-3, 6-2-2 SSC) vs. West Alabama (15-2-1, 10-1-0 GSC)
Date/Time: Sunday, November 12 at 1 p.m.
Location: Pepin Stadium | Tampa, Fla.
Last Time Out: UT traveled to West Palm Beach, Fla. to take part in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament as the 2nd seed. The team advanced to the Championship game after overcoming Lynn University in penalty kicks after 110 minutes of scoreless play. In the final, Tampa defeated Rollins 2-1 in regulation. Felipe DeSousa scored the opening goal in the 55th minute. After Rollins tied in with 10 minutes to go, Marcel Salokat scored a late penalty kick in the 89th minute to help the Spartans lift the trophy.
About the Spartans: The Tampa offense is led by DeSousa who has scored nine goals while Monty Berrow is second with five goals. Lewis Sugden leads the team in assists with six and five other players have recorded multiple assists this season. In net, Jake Richards has played most of the season and comes into the match allowing just 12 goals in 1136 minutes of play. The sophomore keeper has recorded five shutouts and has 44 saves.
About the Tigers: The offense for UWA is led by Ali Brador with 12 goals in 18 games played while 13 other players have netted at least once for the Tigers. Jean-Baptiste Meyniel leads the visiting side in assists with nine in 16 games played. Goalkeeper Brad Louis has been the choice to start for most of the season and has also given up just 12 goals in 1521. The senior has 55 saves and six shutouts this season.
Series History: Tampa leads the all-time series against West Alabama 1-0-0. The two teams first met on September 21, 2014, as UT came out on top 2-0.
