Spartans Upended by Spring Hill College
The University of Tampa dropped its Labor Day matchup with Spring Hill College by allowing two goals in the second half.

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 23 University of Tampa men's soccer team was defeated by Spring Hill College by a final score of 2-1 on Labor Day. This match was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon but was ultimately re-scheduled due to weather.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | In the first half, the two teams exchanged opportunities but Julius Becker broke the ice for the Spartans in the 41st minute. Becker corralled the ball on the left side of the box, turned and ripped a shot towards the lower left corner. The shot was deflected off the diving goalkeeper Alessandro Erdelyi and trickled into the net. UT took three corner kicks in the first ten minutes of play, however did not take another corner in the half. Jake Richards made two saves for the Spartans, as Spring Hill's Matthew Moreno took three total shots in the first 45 minutes.
2nd Half | Spring Hill College's Judah Chapman equalized the game in the 56th minute with a rocket from just outside the box. The goal was perfectly placed in the upper left corner and Richards had no chance to make the save. The go-ahead goal came in the 80th minute when sloppy defending granted Matthew Moreno the opportunity to push one past Richards. Several deflections led the ball to the foot of Moreno who sealed the deal for the Badgers.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Tampa's Knut Soeren Hovet was charged with a yellow card in the 69th minute.
- The Spartans led the way in corner kicks with nine, compared to Spring Hill's five.
- The Badgers committed 14 fouls on the afternoon, but did not receive any cards.
- Spring Hill's Matthew Moreno had a game-high four shots, two on target.
UP NEXT: The University of Tampa will travel to North Georgia on Thursday, kick off is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Morrow, Ga.
