Spartans Defeated by No. 9 Florida Southern
The University of Tampa dropped the match 1-0 to the Moccasins.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's soccer team battled with No. 9 Florida Southern but ultimately dropped the match 1-0 in part to Foster Appiah's world-class finish from about 30 yards out.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | The Spartans peppered Benny Yusufoglu with five shots on target in the first half. Toni Soler and Juancho Fernandez logged two shots each in the first 45 minutes. Joey Bajza was charged with a yellow card in the 20th minute. The best opportunity of the half came in the 45th minute as Julian Jordan-Canosa hit the cross bar seconds before the whistle.
2nd Half | Jake Richards registered a save in each half, but had no chance at saving Foster Appiah's rocket to the upper ninety. It was the first career goal for the Florida Southern defender. Benny Yusufoglu had a busy night, saving eight shots on target. The sophomore goal-keeper has only allowed two goals all season.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Richards is ranked eighth-all time in UT history with 137 saves in 37 career starts.
- Fernandez ripped three shots on goal which led both teams.
- Florida Southern was charged with three yellow cards in the second half.
