PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss in its season opener against NCAA South Region opponent University of West Florida as the Argonauts sealed the victory on a golden goal in the 109th minute of play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | In the 15th minute the Argonauts capitalized on a penalty kick by redshirt junior Ed Chappe. Following back and forth play, Tampa broke through as forward Till Neumann was able to sneak a ball past goalkeeper Jihad Gomes to knot things up at one apiece.
2nd Half | The second half was filled with back and forth play as the two evenly matched teams struggled to remain in control of possession.
Extra Time | Following a scoreless first overtime, UWF secured the victory with one minute to play in the second overtime period. Redshirt senior forward Sean Hoffstatter re-entered for West Florida in the 100th minute and netted the game-winner just nine minutes later.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Neumann scored the first goal for the Spartans in 2019 as the junior scored three in his first season as a Spartan.
- Rojay Smith was credited with the assist on Neumann's first-half goal.
UP NEXT: The Spartans return home for their home opener on Thursday at 7 p.m., against Flagler College.
