Spartan Swimmers Win Final Home Meet of Season
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams each won a dual meet over visiting Rollins College and Saint Leo University to conclude the 2006-07 home season. The 16th-ranked Spartan men defeated Rollins (93-87) and Saint Leo (93-58) while the UT women, ranked 13th in the nation, defeated Rollins (97-82) and Saint Leo (118-51) as well.
The Spartan men won a total of seven races, including a Blaine Bess victory in the1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:18.28. Other Tampa victories were recorded by Tyler Furrer (200 Freestyle, 1:46.13), Kyle Treen (50 Free, 22.69), Kyle Merritt (200 IM, 2:03.05), Roman Dagash (100 Fly, 53.26), Cory Allen (100 Backstroke, 59.89) and Frank Kuchta (500 Freestyle, 4:59.15).
The women's race was also equally balanced among the seven Tampa victories as the 200 Medley Relay team of Allison Vetter, Marissa Mumford, Katie Shald and Hannah Hudson (1:56.03) were among UT's winners. Megan Garland (200 Freestyle, 2:00.93), Mariesa Hardin (50 Free, 26.10), Jessie Bardin (200 IM, 2:17.34), Susanna Ashley (100 Fly, 1:01.32) and Marissa Mumford (100 Freestyle, 57.27) all turned in wins for Tampa in their respective races.
The Spartans will next compete at Florida Atlantic against FAU and the University of Miami. The race will be on Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 am.
