Tampa Hands Rollins a Pair of Losses
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams registered a pair of impressive performances, defeating Rollins College in both venues. The Spartan men won 126-67 as the women topped the Tars 120-78.
The Spartans recorded victories in 18 of the 22 races, beginning with wins by both the men and women in the 200 Medley Relay. Kyle Merritt, Matt Kramer, Mike Lewis and Patrick Murray (1:39.76) won the men's race as Ellie Eshleman, Marissa Mumford, Susanna Ashley and Hannah Hudson (1:53.98) did the same for the women.
In men's action, Tyler Furrer and Blaine Bess each won a pair of races, with Furrer taking the 1,000 Free (9:49.86) and 500 Free (4:52.73). Bess took top honors in the 200 Free (1:47.72) and 100 Free (49.66). Other Spartan men who won their respective meets include Mike Verdi in the 50 Free, Hunter Lineback in the 400 IM, Paul LaPorta in the 100 Fly and Kramer in the 100 Back.
Defending national champion Jessie Bardin won the 200 Free with a time of 1:57.51, and also took the 100 Free after a time of 55.77. Susan Johnson also earned a pair of victories, winning the 1,000 Free (11:24.49) and 500 Free (5:26.00). The 50 Free was championed by Stephanie Branham while Jennifer Jenkins won the 400 IM, Allison Vetter the 100 Fly and Eshleman the 100 Back.
UT returns to action on Saturday, December 8, when it hosts Wright State at 10:30 a.m.
