Emory Defeats Tampa In Near-Freezing Temperatures
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams were defeated by Emory University as cold temperatures failed to deter the teams. Emory picked up a 161.5-92.5 victory in women's action and a 146-117 triumph in the men's event.
UT's women won a pair of individual races, beginning with a Madaleine Clark victory in the 500 Free with a time of 5:24.01. Kelsey Lubbers then championed the 200 IM in 2:13.60.
The Spartan women also place first in the 200 Free Relay as the team of Amy O'Brien, Stephanie Branham, Allison Vetter and Jessie Bardin notched a time of 1:43.44.
The UT men's team had two wins from relay teams, beginning with the 200 Medley Relay team of Patrick Murray, Kevin Kelley, Paul LaPorta and David Humphrey that started competition with a performance of 1:38.11. The Spartan 200 Free Relay team of Humphrey, LaPorta, Jason Khoury and Murray also won in 1:29.19.
Murray also won a pair of individual events, including the 100 Back (54.19) and the 200 Back (1:59.62). He and Humphrey each won four races on the day as the freshman picked up wins in the 50 Free (22.00) and 100 Free 48.82. Roman Sereda also won the 200 IM in 1:58.33.
Tampa is back in action on Saturday at 11 a.m. as it hosts a trio of local teams including Saint Leo, Rollins and Florida Southern. The final home meet of the season will take place at the UT Swimming Complex.
