Spartan Women Defeat Indian River College
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 11 University of Tampa women's swimming team won on Saturday over Indian River College by a score of 138-123. The No. 12 UT men's team fell by a 146-116 score at the UT Swimming Complex.
The Spartan women started the race with a first-place finish in the meet's first event, the 200 Medley Relay. Tampa's Caroline Belli, Michelle Walcker, Lindsay Calimer and Amy O'Brien were the first to finish with a showing of 1:52.13.
Freshman Heather Glenday picked up a pair of first-place finishes, winning the 1,650 Free (18:15.94) and the 500 Free (5:16.15). Also winning for UT's women were Ellie Eshleman in the 100 Back (1:00.03), Lisa Bero in the 200 Breast (2:29.67), Calimer in the 100 Fly (1:00.31) and Alex Hipolito in the 200 IM (2:12.23).
Chris O'Linger and David Humphrey each turned in a pair of top finishes, with O'Linger championing the 200 Fly (1:57.34) and 1,650 Free (16:09.92). Humphrey won the 50 Free (21.67) and the 100 Fly (51.63). Jeff Fiore won the 200 Free (1:45.41) as senior Hunter Lineback was first in the 200 IM (2:00.09)
Tampa also finished the afternoon with a first-place finish in the men's 200 Free Relay. The team of Humphrey, Felipe Manzo, Brad Hines and Fiore won while posting a time of 1:26.73.
