Tampa Sweeps Florida Tech in SSC Swimming Meet

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams both cruised past Florida Tech on Friday afternoon at the UT Aquatics Center.
The No. 10 Spartan men were victorious by a score of 125-77, as the No. 15 UT women prevailed 130-72.
Tampa's men won the 400 Medley Relay in the first men's race as Runar Borgen, Wayne Denswil, Khalid Aldaboos, Derek Krell were the first to finish after being clocked at 3:28.18.
Alberto Orejuela won a pair of races, including the 1,000 Free (9:49.62) and 500 Free (4:45.43). Jeremy Parker also won two races, placing first in the 200 Free (1:42.91) and 100 Free (46.04).
Also winning races for UT's men were Aldaboos (50 Free, 21.11), Denswil (200 Back, 1:58.21) and Clayton Clemens (200 Breast, 2:13.37).
In the first event of the afternoon, Tampa's women won the 400 Medley Relay behind strong efforts by Catherine Bayes, Elizabeth Penrod, Sophie Long and Erin Plachy. The winning time was logged at 4:04.44.
A pair of Spartan women won two individual races, including Brittany Bayes in the 200 Free (1:59.08) and 500 Free (5:15.82). Marisa Barton took the 50 Free (24.26) and 100 Free (53.26).
Shannon Armstrong won the 1,000 Free with a time of 10:54.30, as Jesse North claimed the 200 Fly in 2:11.82. Penrod also added a first-place time in the 200 Breast, being timed at 2:31.15.
Tampa will swim twice on Saturday, beginning at home against Nova Southeastern in a meet that begins at 11 a.m. The Spartans will also send teams to Rollins for a 1 p.m., event in Winter Park, Fla.
