Tampa Swimming Starts Strong at Day One of Shark Invite

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams opened their 2022-23 season at the two-day Nova Southeastern University Shark Invitational, with both teams in first place heading to the second day.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Men's Score: Tampa 556, Nova Southeastern 356, Florida Southern 353, SCAD 258, St. Thomas 109, Florida Tech 73
Women's Score: Tampa 553, Nova Southeastern 530, SCAD 267.5, Florida Southern 267, Florida Tech 58.5, St. Thomas 27
Location: NSU Swim Complex | Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- There was a total of 18 events in day one.
- The Spartan men claimed first-place finishes in seven of the nine men's races.
TOP PERFORMERS (MEN):
- UT won the opening relay, taking the 400 Medley Relay in 3:22.61. The UT team included Parker Knollman, Aramis Rivera, Winn Aung and Santiago Aguilera.
- Hayden Curley took first place in the 500 Free with a time of 4:26.87. Curley also won the 200 Back after being clocked at 1:50.44.
- After being part of the first-place relay performance, Rivera was the first to finish the 200 IM, doing so in 1:52.42. Rivera also championed the 200 Breast in 2:03.95.
- Ian Morgan championed the 200 Fly as he finished in 1:52.00.
- UT was first in the final race, the 200 Free Relay. Tibor Tistan, Aguilera, Caleb Brandon and Jimmy Senese posted the winning time of 1:22.80.
TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN):
- Freshman Tilde Morin won the 50 Free, with a time of 23.65.
- The Spartans ended day one with a first-place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Erika DiPietro, Morin, Sophie Frece and Emily Van de Wiele were timed at 1:36.42.

The second and final day of the Shark Invitational will start on Saturday at 8:30 am.
