Spartan Runners Capture Second Place at Florida State Invitational
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's cross country teams ran to second place finishes at the Florida State Invitational. Host Florida State University won the women's races as North Florida took the men's title at Greenbelt Parkway.
In the women's race, Laura Woznicki led the Spartans with a time of 18:05.64 to finish third out of 94 runners. Jessica Forrester finished sixth with a time of 18:32.67 as Paige Williams became the third Spartan to finish in the top 10 with an eighth place finish with a time of 18:38.95.
Julia Vola finished 17th with a time of 19:22.34 while UT's fifth place finisher was Michelle Gabrielle with a time of 19:22.34 to place 27th. Other Spartans who competed in the race were Alysha Duffy (33rd, 19:52.31), Sara Nelson (39th, 19:57.24), Erin Heeder (41st, 19:58.46), Kathryn Cummins (62nd, 21:19.56), Leela Hadsock (64th, 21:23.62) and Amber Eisenberg (71st, 21:34.67).
On the men's side, Tony Nicolosi's eighth place finish paced UT's men as he completed the race in 27:01.59. Nicolosi finished fourth among collegiate runners. Chris Catanach rounded out the top 10 with a time of 27:16.28 while David Forry continued his return to form with a 13th place finish. Forry came in with a time of 27:29.84.
Jeremy Lautzenheiser turned in a 22nd place finish with a time of 27:43.53 as Kevin Lane completed Tampa's top five with a 50th place finish in 29:14.15. Gordon Wright (63rd, 29:57.26) also competed for the Spartans in the field of 80.
The Spartans will now take a week off before returning to action on Saturday, October 6, when the men's and women's teams travel to Orlando to compete in the Disney Classic. The race will take place at the Wide World of Sports and will begin at 7:30 a.m.
