Spartans Fall Late to Tars in SSC Opener
Rollins came back in the 7th inning to take game one of the three-game series
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Spartans opened their 2017 Sunshine State Conference schedule with a Friday evening visit to Winter Park, Fla. to take on the Rollins College Tars.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Tampa 4 (L: Miner 3-1), Rollins 5 (W: Piening 3-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Inning: The Spartans opened the scoring in the top of the inning as Taylor Farrell singled to center field and advanced to second on a throwing error by the Tars first baseman off an infield hit by Bre Setree. Lauren Pascoe replaced Farrell at second as a pinch runner and came around to score on a single to right-center field by Makaleigh Dooley.
5th Inning: Setree drew a walk to start the inning and moved to third on a double by Dooley to left-center field. Corynn Miner drove both runners in with a double of her own to open up a 3-0 lead. Before the inning was over, Maddie Farrell drove in another run as she singled through the left side.
6th Inning: Rollins got on the board via a solo home run straight to center field by Lint.
7th Inning: The Tars walked off with the win as they put four runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning with the final hit being a sharp hit right back up the middle that scored two runs with two out.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Miner added six strikeouts to her count and brings her season total to 30 in 26.2 innings of work.
- The Spartans drew six walks on the game, with four of them coming against the Tars starting pitcher Street.
- UT left 11 runners on base while RC left five runners on.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- With her two runs batted in today, Miner leads the team with eight.
- UT now has back to back games with at least two doubles
- Tampa has also drawn 34 walks this season and scored 41 runs.
UP NEXT:
Tampa returns to action tomorrow morning with a doubleheader slated to begin at 11 a.m. to wrap up the regular season series against Rollins.
